Abstract

821,658. Capacitors. TELEPHONE MANUFACTURING CO. Ltd. Oct. 29, 1957 [Nov. 1, 1956], No. 33372/56. Class 37. A method of making a capacitor comprises the steps of winding together two or more dielectric strips, at least one of the strips being metallized over the major part of one side but having a continuous unmetallized margin along one edge and a discontinuous unmetallized margin along the opposite edge, the discontinuity being provided by a plurality of metallized extensions up to the opposite edge; and making electrical connection, at the extensions, to the electrode constituted by the metallizing, whereby the resistance of the connection is increased. As described, two strips of paper or polystyrene are metallized with aluminium or nickel. One edge of each strip is unmetallized; and the metallizing extends to the other edge only at certain places. The strips are wound in a roll, the metallized margin of one strip overlying and extending slightly outwardly of the urunetallized margin of the other strip, and the roll ends sprayed to provide electrical connections.
