Abstract

815,089. Photo-conductive devices. THORN ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. June 19, 1956 [July 8, 1955], No. 19875/55. Class 37. [Also in Groups XL (a) and XL (b)] A photo-conductive device consists of two photo-conductive layers 18, 19, separated by an opaque layer 20 and sandwiched between two transparent conductive electrodes 17, 21. It is employed combined with a photo-conductiveelectroluminescent panel 2 ... 6 which produces a scanning spot of light (see Group XL (a)) to form a television signal generator. This light spot affects layer 18 through glass support 1, while the scene 22 affects layer 19. Only where both layers are affected is there a conductive path between the electrodes so that the output at 24 is a measure of the instantaneous intensity of the scene at the point where the light spot is. Layer 20 may be non-conductive, when alternating bias is necessary; or conducting for D.C. bias, but retaining sufficient transverse resistance for proper resolution. Specifications 798,503 and 798,504, [both in Group XL (a)], are referred to.
