Abstract

809,798. Injectors. SEBAC-NOUVELLE S.A. July 23, 1956. [July 29, 1955], No. 22782/56. Class 71. [Also in Groups XXVI and XXXIII] Fluid, e.g. air issuing at high speed from an orifice 22<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 1, and suitable for effecting jet propulsion of aircraft, boats and wheeled vehicles (see Group XXVI) is initially induced by a vapour jet, e.g. steam issuing from a nozzle 9 and a surrounding annular nozzle 7 both supplied through a duct 4 with steam from a space 3 of a tubular boiler 1 heated by a burner 2, and the steam-air mixture traverses an expanding nozzle 60 having a water jacket 20 serving to at least partially condense the steam and a plurality of water-cooled baffle tubes 14 which separate the condensed steam and allow it to collect in a reservoir 15 from which the water is drawn by a Giffard condenser 17 and is returned to the boiler ; the water-free air then being heated by the burner prior to being discharged through the orifice 22<SP>1</SP>. In a modification three sets of steam nozzles are arranged in tandum. In a further modification several nozzles 9, Fig. 3, arranged in parallel are surrounded by the annular nozzle 7 and condensed steam is removed by spaced dished members 25 having axially extending blades 27 secured to their outer peripheries ; the air then traversing straightening blades 29 before being heated by the burner casing 2<SP>1</SP> and being discharged through the orifice 22<SP>1</SP>. In a further modification separation of the condensed steam is effected in a centrifuge. With water as the induced fluid, the inducing fluid may be steam or the vapour of a liquid immiscible with water and capable of being separated therefrom and returned to the boiler.
