Abstract
797,480. Moulding metal locked resin laminates. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. Aug. 28, 1956, No. 26232/56. Class 87(2). [Also in Group VIII] A method of banding copper sheet to expanded polystyrene comprises placing beads or granules F of polystyrene mixed with a suitable expanding agent, e.g., a chemical blowing agent or absorbed liquid or vapour in the cavity G of a mould and placing on top of the beads a sheet of electrolytic copper H coated with resin J. which is a blend of an epoxy resin and a polyamide. The top K of the mould is brought down on to the copper, under pressure and the temperature is raised. Shoulders L on the top K of the mould engage the walls M of the cavity. The polystyrene granules soften and the expanding agent gives off a gas which is occluded with the polystyrene to form a cellulor structure. The polystyrene is forced into intimate contact with the resincoated copper and the resin is cured to adhere the copper to the expanded polystyrene.
