Abstract
Vinyl halide polymers are plasticised and stabilized by incorporating therein an epoxide compound of the general formula <FORM:0796391/IV (a)/1> where X1 and X2 represent alkyl groups containing 1 to 18 carbon atoms and R1 to R8 represent hydrogen atoms and/or lower alkyl groups. Conventional plasticisers and stabilizers may also be present. The polymer may be polyvinyl chloride, or a copolymer of vinyl chloride with vinyl acetate, vinylidene chloride, acrylonitrile, or a mixture of vinylidene chloride and acrylonitrile. Specified compounds of the given formula are di-(2-ethylhexyl) 4,5-epoxy cyclohexane-, dimethyl and diethyl 4,5-epoxycyclohexane-, didecyl 4,5-epoxycyclohexane, di(tridecyl) 4,5-epoxycyclohexane-, di-(2-ethylhexyl) 4,5-epoxy methyl substituted cyclohexane-, and didecyl 4,5-epoxy methyl-substituted cyclohexane-1,2-dicarboxylate. Conventional plasticisers mentioned are dioctyl phthalate, tri-(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate, and tetrabutyl thiodisuccinate. Conventional stabilizers mentioned are barium and/or cadmium laurate, dibutyltin maleate, di-tert.-butyl peroxide, tert.-butyl peroxide, 2,4-dichlorobenzoyl peroxide, tert.-butyl perbenzoate, trioctyl or triphenyl phosphite, lead silicate-silica gel, and cadmium ricinoleate.
