Abstract
765,238. Multiplex pulse signalling. TELEFONAKTIEBOLAGET L. M. ERICSSON. Dec. 22, 1954 [Dec. 23, 1953], No. 37121/54. Class 40(5) A circuit for selecting a particular channel of a multiplex time-phase modulated pulse train and producing a duration modulated pulse train consists of a triode -1 which is normally non-conducting (see below), incoming signal pulses being applied to the grid via condenser 6 and negative gating pulses being applied via transformer 8 to the cathode. The gating pulses are arranged so that the selected channel pulses fall within the gating period. The pressure of a gating pulse causes the valve to conduct. A positive pulse of the selected channel causes grid current to flow which charges condenser 6 negatively. The cessation of the channel pulse then causes the grid voltage to drop far enough to cut off the valve (despite the continuation of the gating pulse) and so terminate the duration modulated output pulse. With the end of the gating pulse, the grid/ cathode voltage falls further negative, and then rises slowly as condenser 6 discharges through resistor 4. The time constant of 4 and 6 is chosen so that the valve remains cut off until the next gate pulse.
