Abstract

764,551. Pneumatic separating. USINES DECOUPLE. Jan. 3, 1955 [Jan. 7, 1954], No. 68/55. Class 117 [Also in Group VI] Tobacco picked from a roller 10 is carried by a belt 13 into a channel 16 where a splined roller 15 throws it into an upward airstream produced by suction through perforations in a conveyer belt 2 and sufficient to carry tobacco shreds upwardly to cling to the belt as a coherent charge whilst big pieces and foreign bodies fall downwardly. The belt 2 may be of metal, " plastic " or woven cotton and have a rough operative surface; it moves between smooth walls tapering together only slightly in the direction of belt movement. The speed of the air current in the duct 16 is preferably in the range 10 to 15 metres per second. The belt 2 may be flat or troughed.
