Abstract

747,564. Door-operating mechanism. ARENS CONTROLS, Ltd. April 9; 1954 [April 13, 1953; April 13, 1953], Nos. 10022/53 and 10023/53. Class 65 (1). [Also in Groups X and XXIV] Mechanism for moving a bar 16 longitudinally and also angularly about an axis 25 is particularly applicable to the operation of pivoted windows, louvres, doors, dampers or the like and comprises a carriage 14 supporting the bar 16 for sliding movement and being itself mounted for pivotal movement about the axis of a rotatable driving element 9 for the bar 16. As shown, the element 9 is supported on a casing 3 secured to the fixed frame 1 of a pivoted window 20 and is operated by cables 31, 32 from a remotely positioned handle 36. The bar 16 is secured to a plate 21 pivotally connected at 25 to an arm 22 pivoted at 26 to the movable window 20. The driving element 9 comprises a pulley coupled by a cable 17 to the ends of bar 16 whereby rotation of the pulley effects longitudinal sliding of the bar 16. Alternatively, the element 9 could be a toothed wheel and engage with rack teeth on the bar 16. If the pulley 9 is rotated clockwise the bar 16 is moved to the right to open the window 20 from the closed position shown, angular movement of the bar and carriage 14 being prevented by an abutment on the plate 21, engaging the arm 22. Anti-clockwise rotation of pulley 9 will then reverse the movement of bar 16 until the window is closed and the mechanism is again in the position shown. If the anticlockwise rotation of pulley 9 is continued the bar 16 and carriage 14 will rotate bodily about the axis thereof, which now coincides with the axis 25, to move in the direction indicated by the arrow into a position alongside the frame 1. The pulley 9 and carriage 14 is mounted so as to allow for a certain amount of rocking movement to accommodate the arcuate movement of the window and may be mounted together with the supporting casing 3 on the movable window instead of the frame, the arm 22 then being mounted on the frame. The actuating cables 31 and 32 may be extended as at 31, 32' to operate other windows simultaneously from the single operating handle 36. Windows pivoting about bottom central or vertical pivots may be similarly actuated.
