Abstract

745,847. Pipe joints. FOLKARD, Ltd., J. S. & F. Aug. 10, 1954 [Aug. 10, 1953], No. 22057/53. Class 99(1). Radial flanges 12, 16, on plastic pipes 11, 15 are provided with undercut rear faces and with interengaging spigot and socket portions 18, the flanges being forced into abutting relationship by connecting collars 10, 14, which force rigid annular supports 13, 17, into the undercut parts of the flanges. As shown the supports 13, 17 are metal rings which are forced against the flanges 12, 16 by tightening of the screw-threaded collars 10, 14. In a modification the ring 13 is dispensed with, the forward end of the collar 10 being chamfered to fit into the undercut face of the flange 12. The pipes 11, 15 may be made of polythene and the invention is applicable to the connection of a pipe to a pipe fitting such as a band elbow, or T-junction, the flange 12 and collar 10 being incorporated in the fitting.
