Abstract
738,061. Drying coal. ATLAS POWDER CO. July 9, 1953 [July 28, 1952; July 28, 1952], No. 19057/53. Class 34 (2). In the drying of wet coal by displacing the water by another fluid, a mixture of mineral oil and a surface-active agent such as a lower alkyl amine salt of'an alkyl aryl sulphonate, a partial ester of a polyhydric alcohol having at least 3 carbon atoms in an uninterrupted chain and not more than 6 carbon atoms and monocarboxylic organic acids with at least 12 carbon atoms, a polyoxyethylene ether of said partial ester, or an ester of a polyoxyethylene ether of a polyhydric alcohol having at least 3 carbon atoms in an uninterrupted chain and not more than 6 carbon atoms and a monocarboxylic organic acid with at least 12 carbon atoms, the proportion of such agent being between 0.1 and 1.0 per cent by weight is sprayed on to the coal and the displaced water drains off, leaving coal coated with oil.
