Abstract
726,720. Rotary tool-heads. WOLLENHAUPT, J. April 20, 1953 [Sept. 22, 1952], No. 10795/53. Class 83 (3). A facing tool-head having built-in electromechanical high-speed and feeding drives for the face-plate slides comprises a two-wheeled planet block 8, 14 and 9, 15, for each of the drives, the blocks having axes fixed with respect to the head axis, the two wheels having different numbers of teeth, wherein one wheel of each planet block may be driven by a gear 7 on the machine spindle and the other drives a wheel 16, 17 freely mounted on the machine spindle, the speed of which determines the speed of movement of the slides. The faceplate 1, having a stub-shaft, is mounted by screws 3 and driving dogs 6 on the machine spindle 4. The stub-shaft carries the keyed gear 7 rotating gears 8, 9 which may drive the keyed gear pair 16, 17 through either of two electro-magnetically operated clutches 10, 11 and gears 14, 15. The wheel 17 of the pair is geared to a feed-shaft 21 through an internallythreaded gear 19. The thread operates to clutch or unclutch the drive to a gear 22 which, through gears 18, 23, 24 and screws 25, feeds the twin slides 27. One of the slides carries adjustable stops 28, 28a co-operating with a fixed stop 30. Stopping of the slides causes movement of the shaft 21 and actuation of switches by a lever 35 to stop the feed or to initiate a high speed return movement through the clutch 10. Change-speed gearing may be incorporated in the gearing 7, 9, 15, 17 to adjust the feed speed. Means for mounting drilling tools in a central position may be provided.
