Abstract

717,035. Centrifugal pumps. BERESFORD & SON, Ltd., J., and CORNER, J. A. April 25, 1952 [May 5, 1951; June 9, 1951], Nos. 10609/51 and 13725/51. Class 110(1) In a centrifugal pump, parts which are subject to marked corrosion or erosion are made of a siliceous material, each part being wedged in position through the co-operation of a tapered surface associated with the part and a separately formed tapered bush or ring of non-siliceous material In the submersible pump shown, the impellers 23 and stator rings 24, 25 are made of a siliceous material such as toughened glass or toughened glazed earthenware. Each impeller 23 has a tapered bore and is fastened to the shaft 21 by means of a tapered bush 26 which is keyed to the shaft and also to the impeller. A tapered bush 28 is provided between the tapered bore of each ring 24 and a sleeve 27, and a tapered bush 29 is provided between the casing wall and the tapered periphery of each ring 25. The bushes 26, 28, 29 may be of metal, plastic or lignum vitae.
