Abstract

700,789. Valves. WISEMAN & SONS, Ltd, D. F., and SWAIN, A. F. July 18, 1952 [July 18, 1951], No. 16985/51. Class 135 In a valve comprising two rotary apertured discs 6, 7 seating against the two sides of a similarly apertured spacing disc 5, and with the edges 15, 16 of the rotary discs also seating against the inside of the valve casing, the total area of the apertures in any disc is equal substantially to the cross sectional area of the inlet and outlet orifices 9, 10, respectively. The edges of the apertures in discs 6, 7 are radiused to give a streamline flow. Disc 5 is clamped between the two parts of the valve casing, and the two rotatable discs are clamped by screw caps 13 on to a single spindle 8 so that they move synchronously. The means to rotate the discs 6, 7 comprises an actuating wheel 25 provided on a nut 24 in which engages screw threads of opposite hand carried by rods 23, 26. The latter are pivoted at their outer ends to levers 22, 27, the lever 22 being connected by links 19, 19<SP>1</SP> to the opposite ends of a diameter of disc 7. Lever 27 is pivoted on a fixed point 28' and car ries at its outer end a spring-pressed valve 30 adapted, when open, to vent the chamber 18 formed between discs 6, 7 and the valve casing. When wheel 25 is rotated to draw members 23, 26 into the nut 24, lever 27 is first swung round until vent valve 30 is fully open and then lever 22 turns about a point 35 to rotate discs 6, 7. On rotating wheel 25 in the opposite direction, vent valve 30 is again opened before discs 6, 7 are actuated. A bracket 36 co-operates with lever 22 to indicate the degree of opening of the valve.
