Abstract

700,743. Mineral-coated paper. PAPER PATENTS CO. Dec. 14, 1949 [Dec. 23, 1948], No. 32073/49. Class 96 Paper for rotogravure printing &c. is made by applying to at least one side of a paper web a coating of mineral pigment, and an adhesive comprising a mixture of carbohydrate material and a synthetic latex, drying to a moisture content of less than 10 per cent. and super-calendering. The coating may also contain a latex-stabilizing agent, a pigmentdispersing agent and an anti-dusting agent &c. It remains slightly plastic after drying. Examples mention, as constituents of coating compositions, kaolin clay, calcium carbonate, di-methylol urea, urea-formaldehyde resin, pearl starch, acid-converted starch, casein, sodium alginate, cellulose esters or ethers, sugars, gum arabic, a sodium soap, tetra sodium pyrophosphate, and hexametaphosphate. Multi-layer coatings of different compositions may be applied. Specification 545,124 is referred to.
