Abstract
696,707. Road traffic signs. DUNLOP RUBBER CO., Ltd. Feb. 13, 1952 [March 27, 1951], No. 7020/51. Class 3 (ii). A road stud comprises a rubber member 6 bonded to the inside of a housing 1, the rubber member resiliently supporting a reflector element having a reflecting surface or surfaces projecting from the housing the reflector element being slidable into the housing against the spring resistance of the rubber member which is thereby deformed to press against and wipe .the reflecting surface or surfaces. In one construction Fig. 1, an internally screw-threaded socket 7 is located coaxially with and bonded to the rubber member 6 and supports a detachable plunger 8 carrying reflectors 13 which normally protrude from the rubber member. In an alternative construction a part'spherical socket which carries a'spherical glass reflector. is bonded to the rubber member 6 so that part of the reflector normally protrudes from the rubber member: In both forms the base of the housing 1 is closed by a disc 14 and a microswitch 30 may be provided in the housing so that it is operated by depression of the reflector element to control an electrical circuit for traffic lights or other signals.
