Abstract
669,008. Jet propulsion plant. AKTIEBOLAGET BOFORS. June 12, 1950. [June 16, 1949] No. 14592/50. Class 110(iii). [Also in Group XXI] Relates to jet-propelled mis siles fired from a gun or similar device and comprising an outer shell and an inner co-axial body between which is an annular cavity for a ram-jet motor consisting of a compression nozzle, a diffusor, a combustion chamber and an exhaust nozzle. Before firing the com pression nozzle is closed by the inner body 2 which, after launching, is retarded relatively to the shell 1 to expose ar annular passage 5 througl which air compressed against the surface 4 of the inner body enters to become further com pressed in the diffusor chamber 6. From the chamber 6 the air passes into the combustion chamber 7 where the fuel 8 is ignited, the combustion gases escaping through the exhaust nozzle 9. Liquid, gaseous or solid fuels or a combination of these may be used.
