Abstract

662,531. Mats; pile fabrics. TRYTDALE RUGS, Ltd. July 9, 1948 [June 11, 1947], No. 15440/47. Class 142(iv) A pile fabric is made by packing bundles of waste cuttings of strips of textile fabrics, or yarns, or other like pieces of material, into a frame, securing with adhesive the uppermost ends of the bundles and slicing off a layer of the bundles to give the required depth of pile. A backing of canvas or hessian may be applied to the fabric. The adhesive may be sprayed on through suitably arranged nozzles. The bundles 22 are tightly packed in the frame 12 and a lower part 13 of the frame is moved upwards by screws 15 to adjust the pile height which can be measured by a scale 13a. An endless cutting band 21 is passed across the top of the frame 12 to sever the pile fabric from the remainder of the bundles. The pile may be given a final trimming and may be cut longitudinally and transversely by a rotary cutter. The frame is mounted on wheels and runs on rails under the adhesive supplying apparatus, the cutting knife, and the finishing apparatus. Various shapes and patterns can be produced by fitting strips of sheetmetal or wood into the frame and by using waste cuttings of different colours.
