Abstract

657,249. Wells. LIDDELL, G. Nov. 5, 1949, No. 28388. [Class 85] [Also in Group I] In a wellpoint or tube strainer the strainer portion comprises two concentrically disposed flexible strainer tubes 1, 2 which permit the passage of water therethrough and a strainer gauze 3 wrapped round the outside of the innermost tube 2, whilst in a passage in the nose portion of the wellpoint a non-return valve 4 is fitted to enable the wellpoint to be sunk into the earth by the jetting of water under pressure. Part of the riser pipe from the wellpoint may also be flexible. The strainer tubes are formed of coiled springs, or tubes with articulated joints that are slightly distended to permit the passage of water therethrough, or of perforated hose made of rubber or like material. In use, the strainer and riser are passed through a curved pipe or duct so as to cause a change of the direction of penetration into the earth. Specification 11536/08, [Class 85], is referred to.
