Abstract

645,849. Superheterodyne circuits. BALHAM, H. Nov. 3, 1947, No. 29296. [Class 40 (v)] In a reflex superheterodyne receiver the reflex valve is of a high impedance type and amplifies the radio and intermediate frequencies or a first and a second intermediate frequency, the frequency-changing being effected by a twoterminal rectifier. In the circuit shown the received signal is applied to the control grid of the heptode section of valve V1 and the output is applied through a coil 3, a tuned circuit 4 and a coil 5 to the first diode of a valve 2 in series with the voltage induced in a coil 6 from a local oscillator comprising the triode section of valve V1. The resulting 160 kc/s. I.F. in coil 7 is filtered in tuned circuits 8 and 9 and passed back to the input grid of valve V1. Amplified I.F. is taken from coils 10 and 11 in the output circuit of valve V1 and detected in the second diode of valve V2. The resulting output is passed through a resistance capacitance filter R2, R3, C2, C3 back to the input grid of valve V1. The amplified audio voltage developed across resistor Rl in the anode circuit is fed to the grid of the output valve V2. The Provisional Specification includes in addition, the circuit diagrams of a permeability tuned receiver (Fig. 1, Provisional, not shown) and a capacitor tuned receiver (Fig. 2, Provisional, not shown) in which both sides of the capacitors are above ground potential. A double superheterodyne receiver is also illustrated (Fig. 3, Provisional, not shown), the R.F., two I.F. and audio signals all being amplified in the common valve but with the frequency changing diodes included in the same envelope as the second local oscillator.
