644,845. Pipe joints. HINCHLIFFE, A. G., and LEES, D. M. June 28, 1948, No. 17287. [Class 99(i)] [Also in Group XXVI] In a pipe joint for a hydraulic, highpressure line in which one part has a recess e<SP>1</SP>, formed as shown in a flange e screwed on a pipe d, to receive a spigot g<SP>1</SP> on the other part, the spigot being formed on a similar flange g on a second pipe f, a scaling-ring a made of hard rubber etc. and having a rigid steel etc. liner b<SP>1</SP>, c is placed in the recess and between the ends of the pipes. On tightening the joint, the rubber fills the recess and is prevented from extruding into the pipes by the liner. The pipes may be recessed to receive the liner b, or the liner may extend within the bore of one of the pipes, (see Group XXVI) for details and alternative forms of sealing rings.
