[Class 35] A generator to supply a D.C. load comprises a polyphase alternator whose stationary armature 13 is connected through a bridge-connected dry rectifier 28 feeding both the external load and the rotary field member 12. Current passes to the rotor through a brush 22 and slip-ring 24 and returns through the shaft which is earthed by a brush 21. making contact with the end cover 19. A voltage cut-out relay is described for use when charging batteries. The rectifier may be mounted on the generator housing. Specification 644,587 is referred to.
