633,321. Sliding windows. WORCESTER WINDSHIELDS & CASEMENTS, Ltd., and JONES, A. V. Feb. 26, 1948, No. 5696. [Class 137] A sliding window particularly for use in a railway or other vehicle, but suitable for a building, has two panels 1, 2 with outwardly projecting vanes 5, 6, one or more apertures 7 between said vanes preventing the ventilation from being entirely stopped. One or both panels are movable, the sliding being facilitated by the handles on a catch 11. When in closed position, the box-like space between the vanes 5, 6 acts as an air-extractor to maintain ventilation through the apertures 7. In a modification, registering semi-circular apertures may be formed at the edge of each panel. Alternatively, panels may have double walled marginal portions, the apertures in either wall being staggered with respect to those in the other. The plates forming the top and bottom of the boxlike space may be separate from and attached to the vanes 5, 6. The apertures may be screened for the exclusion of dust, &c., and means may be provided to vary the size of the apertures.
