Abstract

627,074. Silencers. FLUOR CORPORATION, Ltd. Jan. 24, 1947, No. 2323. Convention date, Jan. 26, 1946. [Class 7 (ii)] [Also in Group XXVIII] An apparatus for damping pulsations in a gaseous current comprises an outer chamber 11 with several inlets 12, leading e.g. from the cylinders of a compressor, and one or more long pipes 25 through which the gases flow to a second chamber 22 inside the first and having an outlet 19. The minimum volumes of the chambers 11, 22 necessary to silence the combined fundamental frequency of the pulsations from the inlets 12 is calculated from a formula involving the length and radius of the pipe 25. Draining holes 23, 24 are provided in the chamber 1. In a modification the inner and outer chambers are concentric and the outlet 19 is positioned in the side of chamber 22. The device may be used as an inlet silencer. Specification 605,054 is referred to.
