Abstract

623,756. Wave-guides. MILLER, C. W., SAXON, G., and METROPOLITAN-VICKERS ELECTRICAL CO., Ltd. Sept. 18, 1946, No. 28032. [Class 40 (v)] [Also in Group XL (b)] In a coupling arrangement for two waveguide sections 1, 2, with dielectric seals 3, 4 and flanged ends 7, 6 separated by solid dielectric, reflections at the inner ends of the dielectric seals are minimised by providing transformer sections of impedance equal to the geometric means of the impedances of the air and dielectric-filled guides. The transformer sections are formed by protuberances 8, 9 of dielectric material extending a length #/4 along the guide, where # is the mean wavelength of the energy in the air and dielectric-filled guides. The flanges 7, 6 are of length equal to a quarter wavelength in the dielectric. One dielectric seal 4 is provided with a boss 5 which engages a recess on the abutting face of the other dielectric seal 3.
