Abstract
A laminated structure for use particularly in wrapping food, drugs, chemicals, and metal parts comprises at least two plies of a sheet material, each ply having a thickness of 0.0009 to 0.002 of an inch bonded by means of a continuous film of a moisture-vapour-resistent adhesive comprising a synthetic rubber, having a Mooney value of not more than 25 in amount between 9 and 15 per cent, a resin in an amount between 37 and 54 per cent, a paraffin wax in an amount between 52 and 53 per cent, the three components being present in amount totaling 100 per cent and a solvent for the components. The synthetic rubber may be neoprene, a polymer of isoprene or isobutylene, or a copolymer of butadiene or isoprene with styrene or isobutylene. The resin may be one or more natural resins such as rosin, processed congo or copal; or synthetic resins such as coumarone resins; terpene resins obtained by polymerizing beta pinene; chlorinated diphenyl resins; phenol-formaldehyde resins; terpenemaleic anhydride resins; p cyclic rubbers, including those obtained from synthetic rubbers such as polyisoprene, polybutadiene and butadiene-styrene copolymers; chlorinated synthetic rubbers especially those derived from polyisobutylene, polyisoprene, butadienestyrene and isoprene-styrene or chlorinated natural rubber. The paraffin wax preferably has a melting point of 150 DEG F. and may include a micro-crystalline wax. The solvent may be toluene or a gasoline fraction boiling at 70-90 DEG C. A plasticizer is not normally required, but hydrogenated methyl ester of rosin or polyisobutylene may be used for this purpose. The plies are preferably sheets of rubber hydrochloride, vinyl-chloride-vinylacetate copolymer, cellulose acetate, or regenerated cellulose.ALSO:A laminated structure for use particularly in wrapping food, drugs, chemicals, and metal parts comprises at least two plies of a sheet material, each ply having a thickness of 0.0009 to 0.002 of an inch bonded by means of a continuous film of a moisture-vapour-resistant adhesive comprising a synthetic rubber, having a Mooney value of not more than 25, in amount between 9 and 15 per cent, a resin in an amount between 37 and 54 per cent, a paraffin wax in an amount between 32 and 53 per cent, the three components being present in amount totaling 100 per cent, and a solvent for the components. The paraffin wax preferably has a melting point of 150 DEG F and may include a microcrystalline wax. The solvent may be toluene or a gasoline fraction boiling at 70 - 90 DEG C. The plies are preferably sheets of rubber hydrochloride, vinyl-chloride-vinylacetate copolymer, cellulose acetate, or regenerated cellulose.
