Abstract

615,974. Valves. ELECTROL, Inc. Dec. 14, 1944, No. 25127. Convention date, Sept. 30, 1943. [Class 135] [Also in Group XXVI] The valve closure member 15, Fig. 1, has a. peripheral groove 15a loosely housing a rubbery ring 16 which projects from the groove and is deformable by fluid pressure, to the form shown in Fig. 4, to make a fluid-tight joint with a cylindrical seat 10a. Fig. 6 shows a shuttle-valve closure member 65 carrying rubbery rings 66 which moves with a snapaction from one end position to the other in response to pressure exerted on its ends to control the passage of fluid from the inlets 61, 62 to the outlet 64 via the passages 65b between the lugs 65a. The snap-action device comprises a spring 67 encircling the member and engaging rings at opposite ends which bear against a series of balls 70, 71, one of which may enter one of the peripheral grooves 73, 74, while the other bears against one of the inner ends 61#, 62e of the couplings 61, 62 respectively. In a modification, the shuttle-valve member moves without the snap action and carries flanges which guide it in the casing. In a further modification, two valve closure members, similar to that in Fig. 1, on a single operating stem control the passage of fluid from an inlet to either of two outlets.
