Abstract
Filaments, fabrics, horsehair, foils and like articles formed of or containing polyvinyl derivatives are bleached by treatment with aqueous solutions of chlorites, preferably at a pH value of not more than 5. In examples: (1) a skein of polyvinyl chloride threads is treated at 55 DEG C. in a bath containing sodium chlorite and formic acid; (2) a polyvinyl chloride fabric is treated at 55 DEG C. in a bath containing sodium chlorite, acetic acid and sodium oleyl-N-methyl-taurate; (3) a cloth of threads of a copolymer of vinyl chloride and vinyl acetate is allowed to soak in a bath containing sodium chlorite and hydrochloric acid; and (4) artificial horsehairs of after-chlorinated polyvinyl chloride are treated at 55 DEG C. in a bath containing sodium chlorite and formic acid. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 refers also to the bleaching of cast and moulded materials of polyvinyl derivatives. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.ALSO:Filaments, fabrics, horsehair, foils and like articles formed of or containing polyvinyl derivatives are bleached by treatment with aqueous solutions of chlorites, preferably at a pH value of not more than 5.
