Abstract
614,837. Fishing-reels. BARNSLEY, H. B. Aug. 3, 1946. No. 23198. [Class 48] The reel handle axis is in line with the spool axis, or parallel thereto, and is parallel to, or substantially so, to the fishing rod. The reel is contained within a casing which is secured by a T-shaped clamp to the rod. The reel G has a bush g which is free on the spindle d<1> as shown in the figure. When a knob N is screwed along the spindle a spring M is compressed and presses a washer K into frictional hold on the spool through a washer K<1> which cannot turn on the spindle. The spool is pressed against friction material j on a washer J. The spool can turn only wi h considerable friction while the handle is held or turned, but can turn freely if the handle is released. Further screwing of the knob N locks the spool on the spindle. The disc J rotates with the spindle when the handle is turned to wind in the line, making a stud j<1> travel around a slanting face b<1> on a head b causing the spool and spindle to be intermittently moved to and fro axially to lay the line evenly on the spool. When casting the line, it is disengaged from the pick-up R and unwinds from the spool without turning it. The fixed cam face b<1> is secured against the casing A by a nut C. A set-screw P prevents the nut N from being screwed off the spindle. The line-pick-up hook R may be screwed into either of two lugs Q.
