Abstract
610,996. Umbrellas. PARMENTER, E. H. April 18, 1946, Nos. 12039 and 19163. [Class 134] An umbrella has a skirt 10 made wholly or partly of transparent woven textile or other material such as synthetic plastic material, and is attached to the periphery of the umbrella cover. The skirt is extended or collapsed by means of cords 12 attached at one end to the free edge of the skirt, which may be weighted, passing through eyelets 11, 13, and 14 and attached at the other end to the ring 15. Alternatively they may pass through eyelets thereon and be attached to the ring 4, thus reducing the operating movement of the ring 5. In a modification, the stick may be disposed eccentrically relative to the cover, Fig. 3 (not shown), the ribs then being of varying lengths. According to the second Provisional Specification the struts remain of equal length, and the cover may be made of thicker material on one side to balance the weight.
