[Class 40 (iii)] [Also in Group XL (c)] In a nmlti-channel pulse signalling system each channel circuit is fed from a common triangular wave 'generator and comprises a first rectifier passing current at a predetermined voltage level on the input wave and a second rectifier to determine the 'maximum voltage developed by the first rectifier circuit, a pentode valve being operative in the region between these voltage levels which are different for the different channels. In the time-modulated pulse multiplex transmitter described, the sawtooth generator 10 produces a control wave for a plurality of similar channel circuits whose combined output is taken from a common differentiating circuit 23, 24 to an amplifier 13 and thence modulates a radio transmitter 11, 12. In the circuit of channel 1, a biassed diode 14 becomes conducting at a predetermined point of the applied saw-tooth wave, to pass the latter to the grid of pentode 16. At another predetermined point of the saw-tooth wave, the shunt diode 15 becomes conductive to prevent further rise in potential of the pentode grid. At a time after the first incidence of the saw-tooth voltage determined by the modulating voltage applied to its cathode, the valve 16 is arranged to pass rapidly from cut-off to anode current saturation, at which it remains until the saw-tooth fly-back occurs. The rectangular negative-going voltage pulse thus produced at the anode of 16 therefore has a time-modulated leading edge which produces a short time-modulated pulse from circuit 23, 24 for the radio transmitter. The corresponding diodes in the other channels are so biassed that different portions of the control wave are effective for pulse production and the channel pulse trains are thus all of the same recurrence frequency, but interlaced in time.
