[Class 137] [Also in Group XI] A device for extracting and dispersing to the outside atmosphere objectionable gases, vapours &c. from rooms or closets equipped with domestic appliances, such as cooking heating or waterflushing appliances, comprises an electric motor driven exhauster fan installed in the room or closet so as to communicate with the outside atmosphere on its discharge side, and an electromagnetic relay switch or contactor for controlling the fan motor, said relay switch having switch contacts connected in the motor circuit and an operating coil which closes the switch contacts automatically when the domestic appliance is brought into use and maintains said contacts closed to effect continued operation of the fan until, or for an interval of time after, such use of the domestic appliance ceases, whereupon said contacts are released to interrupt the motor circuit, so that the motor ceases to drive the fan and initial conditions are restored. Fig. 3 shows the device applied to the flushing tank of a water closet, the chain 35 controlling a switch 36 which has contacts 37 connected across the supply 12 through the operating coil 14 of an automatic switch 13 and a spring held switch 39. When the switch 36 is closed, consequent closing of the switch 13 completes the holding circuit 42, 43 and starts the fan motor 9. Downward movement of the ball 47 rocks the arm 48 past the switch 39, but its subsequent upward movement raises the switch 39 off its fixed contact 52 thus stopping the motor 9. Fig. 2 shows a modified arrangement, described in connection with a gas cooker (see Group XI) but stated to be applicable to closets, in which a diaphragm 23 or piston is caused by the drop in pressure in the venturi 19, to close a switch bar 32 on to contacts 33 and thus to start the motor 9.
