589,359. Fluid-pressure servomotor-control systems. AUTOMOTIVE PRODUCTS CO., Ltd., and CHOUINGS, L. C. Dec. 4, 1944, No. 24232. [Class 135] A fluid-pressure servomotor system, applicable to vehicle steering gear, comprises an operating member 34, Fig. 1, connected to a driven member 26, for moving, e.g. the drop arm 15 of the steering gear, through a nut 31, angular movement of the nut operating a control valve 41 through a bell crank 38, Fig. 2, whereby the servomotor differential piston 21 moves the driven member and through the resulting opposite angular movement of the nut returns the valve to its initial position thus rendering the servomotor inoperative, the nut being connected to the driven member through a thrust bearing 30. The valve 41 comprises a casing having a spring-loaded plunger 47, operated by the bell-crank 38, which slides in the casing and laps with the end of the. spring-loaded plunger 44 to control the port 53 leading to the reservoir 57. The other end of the plunger 44 has a head 45 controlling communication between the ports 51, 49, leading to the pump 59 and the cylinder space 28, and the cylinder space 29 respectively. Inward movement of the plunger 47 unseats the head 45 to allow ' pressure fluid to flow to the cylinder space 29 to move the piston downwards. Reverse movement, of the plunger 47 allows the head 45 to seat and. opens the port 53 allowing pressure fluid to flow from the cylinder space 29 through the bore 55 to the reservoir so that the piston moves upwards. The driven member 26 may be an axially movable operating member while the shaft 34 may be a rotatable driven member. Resilient biassing means in the form of a spring- loaded plunger 65 engaging a helical groove 68 in the nut tends to rotate the nut back to its central position whenever the nut is displaced therefrom. In a modification the drop arm is connected through a shaft to arms having rotatable studs engaging grooves in the nut, the servomotor being connected to the drop arm.
