Abstract
586,436. Hand trucks. SLINGSBY, G., and SLINGSBY, C. Feb. 15, 1944, No. 2789. [Class 108 (i)] In a hand truck provided with a low loading platform mounted on staggered wheels and having a hand lever with a. wheel at one end pivoted to the frame for tilting the platform to ground level, the platform is of substantially unitary construction with bent down sides tapered toward the front edge of the platform to allow the latter to be depressed to the floor for loading and unloading purposes. As shown in Fig. 4, the hand truck comprises a platform 1, flanged sides 2 tapering towards the front 6 and a rounded rear portion 3. The handle 11 is pivoted on a transverse bar 14 which acts as a fulcrum for wheels 16 by which the platform is raised at the rear end so that the front 6 can be pushed under the load by pressure from the operator's foot on the rounded part 3. Additional wheels 7 and 16 are mounted on transverse axles such that by manipulating the handle the platform can be supported by the wheels 16, the wheels 16 and 7, the wheels 16, 7 and 10, or the wheels 16 and toe 6 of the platform. The wheels 16, Fig. 2, carry a stop 17 to abut under the platform 1 and further stops 18 at the extremity of slots 13 in the platform are provided for the bifurcated ends 12 of the handle when they are in the maximum lift position of the platform. A forked chain grip 26 may be secured by a pin or bolt in any of the holes 30 along the handle 11 to provide various leverages in accordance with the weight of the load to be hauled on to the platform by the chain 23.
