585,091. Electric control systems. MESSIER AIRCRAFT EQUIPMENT, Ltd., and NEILSON, C. B. V. May 4, 1944, No. 8465. [Class 40 (1)] In a positional control system employing a pair of potentiometers P1, P2 connected in a D.C. bridge circuit, the unbalance current modulates an A.C. supply and through an electronic relay controls a servomotor to restore balance. If the contact of potentiometer P1 is moved so that it becomes positive with respect to that of potentiometer P2, rectifiers W1, W2 are conducting and the output is stepped up and applied through a voltage doubler circuit C1, W5, to an electronic relay V1, ionisation of which operates an electromagnetic relay A and causes the motor M to drive the contact of potentiometer P2 in the appropriate direction. If the contact of P1 is moved in the opposite direction, rectifiers W3, W4, are conducting.and an electronic relay V2 is ionised so that a relay B causes the motor to drive-in the reverse direction. In order to increase the sensitivity of the system, the resistance elements of the potentiometers may be made of a material having a negative current-resistance characteristic.
