Abstract
583,936. Athletic shoes. PITT, H. L. B. July 18, 1944, No. 13761. [Classes 17 (ii) and 17 (iii)] The sole a Fig. 1, and/or heel of a boot or shoe is provided with one or more concentric circular projections b, also arcuate projections c, d extending transversely in front and behind the projections b so that the wearer can pivot without slipping on the ball or heel of his foot. The sole is moulded in rubber, leather, metal &c., and the annular projection b comes, directly under the ball of the foot. The hollow centre of the projection b forms a suction cup which prevents slipping, and a further arcuate bar f may be provided adjacent the toe of the boot or shoe. In a modification, Fig. 4, j is an annular projection in the centre of the sole under the ball of the foot. On its inner face it has a series of steps k of diminishing height. Arcuate bars l, m are provided and these are formed with grooves n in their faces. The projections may be formed separately from the sole or heel to which they are secured by adhesive, nails &c.
