Abstract

571,984. Rod couplers, &c. CAVE, N. B. Oct. 25, 1943, No. 17528. [Class 45] [Also in Group XXV] A bolt-coupler, turnbuckle, etc., comprises two similar flanged plates 3, 4 which are disposed in opposition with their orificed end flanges 5, 7 and 6, 8 overlapping. Square or hexagon nuts 5,7 are disposed against each pair of flanges, and keepers 10, 11 retain the nuts in position, and prevent their turning, by embracing arms 17. The keepers have lugs 12 which pass through openings 15, 16 in the plates 3, 4 and are turned over to retain all parts in position. The coupler may be employed to connect the ends of bolts holding in place the temporary walls enclosing concrete, etc., the concrete filling the interstices of the coupler and closing up the hole through the concrete when the bolts are removed after setting. By fitting nuts with opposite hand screws the device can be used, as a turn-buckle.
