Abstract

571,426. Pumps; regulating. GOLLIEZ, G. Feb. 15, 1944, No. 2820. [Classes 7 (ii) and 7 (vi)] [Also in Group XXIX] To supplement the power of an exhaustdriven, supercharging turbo-blower 3, 4 at part load, an auxiliary three-phase motor 5 is provided, the speed of which can be varied in accordance with the speed of the engine by altering the frequency of the current supplying the motor. The arrangement is especially applicable to marine engines and the current may be supplied from the electric mains of the ship, but preferably it is supplied by an auxiliary engine 8 and generator 7, the speed of which is controlled in accordance with the speed of the main engine. This may be effected by mechanical, electrical, pneumatic or, as shown, by hydraulic means. A pump 10 supplies fluid from a tank 11 under the control of an escape valve 17 to servomotors 12, 14, regulating the fuel supply to the respective engines. In modifications, the electric mains are supplied by several Diesel engines controlled simultaneously by servomotors by the fluid circulated by the pump 10. A simple manual control is also described in which levers controlling the fuel supply to the main engine and the auxiliary engine are adjacently mounted so as to be operated simultaneously.
