Abstract
559,978. Protective arrangements. IGRANIC ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and RANDALL, C. E. Oct. 8, 1942, No. 14151. [Class 38 (iv)] [Also in Group XXXVII] In means for reducing the voltage surge when an induction circuit is interrupted, and comprising a non-linear resistance (that is, having a negative voltage characteristic) in parallel with a condenser across the inductive device, as in Specification 548,345, the valve of the condenser in relation to the inductive device in such that, if the condenser were connected across the latter in the absence of the non-linear resistance, the highest possible surge-voltage would be produced when the circuit was broken. Thus the increase in conductivity of the resistance is as rapid as possible. The resistance may be a solid material or a device providing an ionized or discharge path, for example, a mercury-cathode type, heated-cathode type, gas discharge tube, simple form of ionized gas discharge, or the device described in Specification 553,461.
