Abstract
557,729. Securing planes to aircraft. BLACKBURN AIRCRAFT, Ltd. and HAND, P. G. E. June 12, 1942, No. 8040. [Class 4] The centre wing-section of an aircraft is attached to the aircraft frame or fuselage at a number of points and to facilitate assembly and interchangeability, provision is made at the attachment means for adjustment in at least two directions. As shown, the centre wing-section A is attached to the fuselage at four points. The attachment means at each point comprises a bracket 1 mounted between a pair of longitudinal girders 5, 6 of the aircraft frame and from which the wing-section is suspended by a pair of links 15, 16, pivoted to brackets 17, 18 on a girder 19 of the wing-section and to pivots 13, 14 on the bracket. The pivots screw into the brackets 1 to engage an extension 20 of the girder 19 which can thus be adjustably positioned in the fore and aft direction relatively to the bracket 1. Each bracket 1 is secured to the girders 5, 6 at one end by a pin 2 and at the other end by a pin 26 passed through the bracket at 3 and through the eyed end of a screwed rod 4 by which the bracket can be drawn up against a trunnion 10 that bears on a sleeve 7 screwed into a block 8 fixed between the girders 5, 6. The set of the bracket 1 about the pin 2 can thus be adjusted by the parts 7, 4 which are locked in the adjusted position by nuts 11, 12. Lateral movement of the wing-section which would otherwise occur due to the link connections, is prevented by blocks 21, 22 that engage the extensions on the side of the section, the blocks 21 being disposed between the girders 5, 6, or the links on that side may be replaced by blocks mounted on the shafts 13, 14 but incapable of rocking movement. In mounting the wing-section, the links and brackets 1 are first attached thereto, the rods 4 are extended downwardly to permit attachment of the brackets thereto by the pins 26, the rods are drawn up and the forward ends of the brackets are then secured to the girders by the pins 2.
