Abstract
554,927. Water-tube steam boilers. BABCOCK & WILCOX, Ltd. Jan. 22, 1942, No. 916. Convention date, April 26 1941. [Class 123 (ii)] In a boiler having inclined bent tubes 20 connected to upper and lower drums 21, 22 the upper drum is supported by vertical side wall tubes 36a connecting the drum 21 to headers 37 disposed along the bottom of the side walls and supported on castings 39. The headers are secured to the castings by plates welded to the headers and bolted to the castings through expansion slots. The inner ends of the headers are supported by brackets on the lower drum. The supporting tubes 36a have a greater wall thickness than the other side wall tubes 36. The front wall tubes 60 are connected to a transverse header 61 supported on and connected to the longitudinal headers 37 by tubes 63. Transverse and longitudinal partitions 55, 24, 25, 26, direct the furnace gases first into an open pass 54 and then backwards and forwards over tube groups 27, 28, 29 to a damper controlled outlet 31. A superheater may be arranged at the back of the tube group 27.
