Abstract

554,203. Stretching yarns &c. BRITISH NYLON SPINNERS, Ltd., LOASBY, G., and POWNALL., L. Dec. 22, 1941, No. 16484. [Class 120 (iii)] [Also in Group IV] Artificial filaments, yarns, or threads of varying denier are produced by passing a continuous thread 1 from an extrusion device or a wound package through the nip of two rollers 3, 4 rotating at equal peripheral speeds in opposite directions one or both of which having one or more slots 5 and thence to a winding or winding and twisting device rotating at a greater speed than the nip rollers, in some cases a further roller being interposed in front of the winding or winding and twisting device. When, owing to the slots, the thread is not nipped it is not stretched to the same extent as when it is nipped, whereby variations of denier are produced. The process may be applied to nylon threads. Specifications 461,236 and 461,237, [both in Group IV], are referred to.
