Abstract
549,388. Printing inks. HUBER, Inc., J. M. Aug. 6, 1940, No. 12646. Convention date, Sept. 20, 1939. [Class 2 (iii)] [Also in Group XV] A printing ink, for use in a process of printing at elevated temperatures such as described in Specification 543,393, melts above 125‹F. has a fluid consistency suitable for letterpress printing at temperatures above its melting point, is chemically stable and free from ingredients volatile at temperatures encountered in the use of the ink, is hard and rub-resistant at ordinary temperatures and consists of printing ink colouring matter incorporated in a normally solid thermo-fluid vehicle more than 50 per cent. by weight, of which is hard thermoplastic resin containing, in at least a principal part, a resin from the group consisting of hard thermoplastic cumarone resins, rosins, and " resins made from rosin," and substantially all of the remainder of which is " hard wax " with or without other organic plasticizing material. By "resins made from rosin " is meant wood rosin, hydrogenated rosin, hydrogenated rosin esters, oxidized rosin, limed rosin, rosin maleates, ester gum and a rosin derivative derived from long leaf pine known as " Vinsol" (Registered Trade Mark). By " hard wax " is meant hard naturally occurring waxes such as carnauba, candelilla montan or hard paraffin wax, and physically equivalent synthetic waxes or wax substitutes, e.g. certain hydrogenated vegetable oils andethaholamines of substantially saturated hydroxy fatty acids. Suitable plasticizers are heavy vegetable and mineral oils, e.g. blown soya bean oil and heavy-bodied china wood oil, soft or liquid resins such as soft alkyd resins or rosin esters, fatty acids, rosin oils, pitches and coal tar oils. Other thermoplastic resins may be incorporated in the ink, e.g. phenol-aldehyde, alkyd, and fossil resins, dammar and "Gilsonite" (Registered Trade Mark). Examples are given of inks comprising (1) cumarone-indene resin, blown soya bean oil, carnauba wax, carbon black, violettoner and bluetoner, (2) hydrogenatedrosin ester gum, paraffin wax, carbon black and toners, (3) wood rosin carnauba wax, carbon black and toner, (4) cumarone-indene resin, Gilsonite, paraffin wax, montan wax, magnesium oxide, carbon black and toners, (5) and (6) cumaroneindene resin, heavy-bodied china wood oil, carnauba wax and lethal red or chrome yellow. According to the Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91, the thermo-fluid vehicle may comprise any hard thermo-plastic resin as the principal ingredient, and the ink may comprise a cumarone-indene resin, Gilsonite, Soya bean, stearin and carbon black, with or without carnauba wax. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
