Abstract

544,524. Valves. BRITISH THERMOSTAT CO., Ltd., and BUSH, E. J. Jan. 29, 1941, Nos. 1183 and 16318. [Class 135] A valve device having a lift valve member opened by fluid pressure acting against an adjustable loading spring has the valve seat yieldmgly mounted and the closing movement of the valve member limited by a flange on the valve engaging a shoulder on the casing or by the valve member engaging a flat seat surrounding the yielding seat. As shown in Fig. 1, the valve member has a facing of deformable material such as neoprene and is loaded by a spring k adjusted by a screw m having a packing r. The yielding seat comprises a nipple f adapted to move through a central aperture in a flat seating surface o. The nipple is formed on a piston d having a packing e and lifted by a light spring t and inlet pressure admitted through the main inlet passage b. In a modification, the seating has a facing of deformable material and co-operates with a knife-edge seat on the lower end of the valve member. The cylindrical surface of the valve member is provided with a packing and has a flanged part adapted to provide an abutment for the loading spring and also to co-operate with a shoulder on the casing to provide a stop. In this form the loading spring is housed in a sleeve screwed into the casing and formed with a recess co-operating with a fixed pin whereby its movement is limited. The movement of the seat towards the valve member is limited by engagement of the piston with a ported extension on a detachable part of the casing. Strainers are fitted in both inlet and outlet
