Abstract
533,933. Lubricants; refining talloel. FIFE, J. G. (Naamlooze Vennootschap de Bataafsche Petroleum Maatschappij). Oct. 13, 1939, No. 27832. [Classes 32 and 91] [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, May 6, 1940] Lubricants for internal combustion engines contain soaps of talloel and polyvalent metals, preferably basic soaps of zinc, magnesium, calcium, or aluminium. Up to 5 per cent. is suitable. Fractions of talloel may be used, the ratio of resinic to fatty acids therein is preferably adjusted to one as by distillation, and the talloel may first be purified, e.g. by treating a solution in gasolene at 25‹C. with 5 per cent. concentrated sulphuric acid, removing the acid tar, mixing in 10 per cent. of adsorbent e.g. Terrana bleaching earth, distilling off the gasolene, heating to 150‹C. while blowing in steam or inert gas, cooling, and filtering. In one example, crude talloel is distilled under reduced pressure with steam until 85 per cent. passes over ; the first 15 per cent. is discarded; the remainder is heated to 200‹C. with 25 per cent. excess of zinc oxide, water being added from time to time. 1-2 per cent. of the basic soap is added to lubricating oil.
