Abstract
532,294. Distilling oils; spray evaporators. LAUTRETTE, J. A. Aug. 24, 1939, No. 24417. Convention date, Sept. 9, 1938. [Class 32] Volatile liquids, e.g. gas oil, are recovered from used lubricating oil by decanting, filtering and then by atomizing by an elastic fluid under pressure, e.g. superheated steam, into a vessel from which vapours formed are removed and condensed while the heavy liquid components are collected at the bottom of the vessel. Used oil is fed from a decanting tank 1 from which settled impurities and water are run off through line 2, to a filtration vessel 4 and then passes to an atomizer 8 from which it is sprayed by superheated steam &c. at a temperature of 250-300‹C, supplied through line 9 into a column 10. The vapours formed are led off through line 11, condensed in cooler 12, and collected and separated from water in vessel 13. The residual liquid 9 may be further distilled by steam &c. admitted through line 14. The impact surface may be arranged near the nozzle of the atomizer to promote separation of heavier constituents. Liquid collected on the plates of the column may be subjected to similar atomization to effect further separation.
