Abstract

529,235. Dispensing liquids. AVERYHARDOLL, Ltd., and FRASER, J. Feb. 7, 1939, No. 3920. [Class 116] In liquid-measuring and dispensing apparatus of the flow-meter type in which delivery takes place through a valve-controlled nozzle by which, when the major portion of the predetermined quantity has been delivered, a check can be imposed on delivery thereby bringing into operation a mechanism which results in the automatic cessation of flow as soon as the whole of the predetermined quantity has been delivered, there is provided in or adjacent the nozzle an auxiliary metering device actuated by the liquid flow and associated with means which automatically impose the required check on delivery. In one form of nozzle, Fig. 1, the casing 6 houses a meter drum 7 which drives a shaft 13 on which is frictionally mounted a setting disc 19 with a pin 18. A shaft 13a carries a pointer 16a co-operating with a graduated scale 17 and a finger 13h adapted to engage the pin 18 to rotate the setting disc. In operation, the pointer 16a is set to the quantity required and the lever 28 operated to open the delivery valve of known construction. The disc 19 is driven by the drum 7 until one end of a rod 21 enters a peripheral notch in the disc, thereby allowing a valve 21b to close and cut off the supply except for a dribble delivery through a hole 21c. This reduction in flow brings into operation the cut-off device controlled by the indicator of the main meter as described, for instance, with reference to Fig. 4 of Specification 478,129, so that as soon as the predetermined quantity has been delivered the supply is cut off. In a modified form, the valve 21b is without the hole 21c and closing of the valve causes a complete cessation of flow until the pressure in the inlet 6a of the casing 6 operates a piston valve 32, Fig. 5, to open apertures 31a. The complete cessation of flow enables the nozzle to operate with a control mechanism as described in Specification 529,252.
