Abstract
511,249. Ground anchors for posts. LEARMOUTH, D. J., and WICKSTEED & CO. (1920), Ltd., C. Nov: 17, 1938, No. 33489. [Class 45] An anchorage for posts, e.g., the side supports of swings or rail barrier posts, comprises an adjustable clamp consisting of upper and lower lateral abutments at the lower end of the post in combination with a socket consisting of a plate surmounting a cavity and provided with a slot through which the lower abutment is passed and turned to engage beneath the plate, the clamp then being tightened to grip the plate. The lower abutment 12 comprises a transverse key and the upper abutment 13 a sleeve threaded on to the post and secured in clamping position by a lock nut 14. Where, as shown, the post is inclined, the sleeve 13 seats in an arcuate groove 23 of graduated depth in the socket 15. The latter comprises a metal box 16 with an open cavity beneath and with marginal shoulders 17 so that it may be embedded in concrete 18. The slot 19 in the socket is of keyhole form, and wider at the top than the bottom to facilitate removal of soil. The key 12 seats in a shallow transverse slot in the socket. The socket may be formed with an inclined upper surface in place of the groove 23 to serve as a seating for the sleeve 13.
