490,279. Chimney-sweeping equipment. HYGIENIC CHIMNEY CLEANERS (PARENT), Ltd., and CHURCH, A. H. Feb. 12, 1937, No. 14701/38. Divided out of 490,235. [Class 126] In chimney-sweeping equipment comprising supporting means for holding firmly in position a screen or apron for covering the opening to a fireplace or flue, the screen or apron is adapted or provided with means for the passage therethrough of sweeping or cleaning implements without permitting egress of soot or dust, and is made of soft, pliable material adapted when held in position for use to make the required dust-tight joint by reason of direct contact with the appropriate surface. The screen is of relatively thick soft sponge rubber or the like with an outer facing layer of canvas and is formed with a horizontally extending strip or flange 8 adapted to rest on the hearth beneath the supporting means for the vertical portion of the screen. To the edges of a rectangular opening 10 formed in the screen is attached a pocket 13 and to the sides of a slit 15 formed partly in the screen and partly in the pocket is secured a sleeve 16 in the form of a truncated cone projecting forwardly in front of the screen and intended for the passage of the brush rods. The screen may be provided with horizontal and vertical graduated scales. When intended for use with the apparatus described in Specification 490,235, the screen is provided with con. necting members F passing through holes in the screen and made dust-tight by means of rubber washers and clamping plates 52.
