Abstract

478,341. Drying wood. SUNDBERG, A. R. April 14, 1936, No. 10727. Void. Convention date, April 12, 1935. [Class 34 (ii)] A method of drying wood consists in heating the wood in a chamber by a flow of heated gas at a temperature below that which would cause case-hardening, stopping the flow of heated gas to allow the wood to reach a uniform temperature throughout, and removing the moisture by subjecting the wood to the effect of a vacuum, the process being repeated, if necessary. The heating of the wood is performed in stages, and the pressure at the outlet side of the vacuum is kept constant irrespective of atmospheric pressure.
