469,530. Golf clubs. WETTLAUFER, W. L. Oct. 28, 1936, No. 29298. Convention date, Oct. 29, 1935. [Class 132 (ii)] In a golf club means are provided for adjusting the shaft in its relation to the toe and striking-face of the head without changing substantially the inclination of the shaft to the striking-face. In one form of the invention, the head 1, which may be formed with a plurality of ducts 5 ... 10 containing mercury, has a tapered socket 16 engaging the spindle 15 of a shank 3 in which is secured the shaft 2. The axis of the shaft 2 is offset relatively to the axis of the spindle 15, so that the requisite adjustment of the shaft along a circular path 17 is secured by rotating the shank on the head, the parts being subsequently locked in position by a screw 22 causing ribs on a flange 18 to engage recesses in the head. Fig. 10 shows a construction wherein the adjustment is made by turning the offset portion 31 of the club shaft 30 in the head socket, four bayonet slots 34 providing four locking positions. In another construction, the head socket and the offset shaft have each a square section to provide the four locking positions. In a further modification, Figs. 18 and 20, the shaft 51 is inserted in a selected socket in the head 45, a number of such sockets 47 ... 50 being provided. A shank 54 carries a tube 55 engaging one of the unoccupied sockets.
